Even though I’ve been to Phnom Penh countless times, I always forget to bring my camera to take nice pictures of the food. After all, those chicken wings deserve only the best photos taken of them ;) Well during my most recent visit, I was all prepared with the DSLR but as I turned it on… the battery died on me. And I didn’t have a spare battery. Is this a sign from the heavens?? Frustrated, I went ahead with photos taken by my phone instead because good food doesn’t always have to look good!
Clearly, none of these dishes are healthy or light at all. The flavours pack a punch and some might even consider the food to be too aggressively seasoned. But when the butter beef is tangy and just melts in your mouth, the chicken wings have a satisfying crunch with each bite, and the luc lac mingles with the runny egg yolk to create an amazing sweet and savoury sauce, it is definitely worth the cups of water afterwards.
