Short little post today! Because of the lack of variety of Asian restaurants near the UBC area with the exception of countless Japanese restaurants, my friends and I decided to simply head over to Burgoo for some comfort food.
Soup & Sandwich ($16):
For the soup, I chose the crab bisque which was served piping hot in a pretty big portion and topped with plenty of chopped parsley. Tastewise, it was alright, but I was kind of expecting more for the price that I paid. The soup was very thin for a bisque but at least there was plenty of crab pieces in it. The spices were overpowering and kind of took away from the taste of crab. Overall, this was okay but I think that my friend’s butternut squash probably tasted better than this…
For the sandwich, I chose the Dos Diablos which is a regular grilled cheese spiced up with chorizo sausage and roasted red peppers. This was REALLY good, the bread was toasted till it was crispy and the heaviness of the cheese was cut down by the sausages and peppers but you still get that warm fuzzy feeling from the melted cheese. The sandwich was also bigger than I expected so yay :)
In general, Burgoo does have excellent comfort food! Their soup & sandwich combo is a pretty good option for lunch. On previous visits, I’ve also had their Macaroni and Cheese and their French Onion Soup (which is so delicious) and every item on their menu is simply comfort food at its finest! Their menu is quite pricey so I would only go there if I’m REALLY craving comfort food but I would still definitely recommend going there!
